A lazy start to 2006

A very lazy start to 2006
Happy new year to everyone! I had TONS of plans for today…seeing at it isn’t often that you see better than 60 degree temps here in Nashville on January 1st. To take complete advantage if it I’d planned on getting up early…having a light breakfast and spend the rest of the day outside. Yea…right…didn’t happen. We didn’t go out last for New Years Eve…too man amateurs think they can drink their asses off one night a year. Even when I did go out every weekend…I’d hole up somewhere for New Years Eve…too many chances to go to jail.
Woke up around 11 this morning, not exactly 1st thing in the morning, had breakfast…and WHAM…sinus headache…most likely from the fronts moving in to screw up this wonderful weather we’re having.
I wasted the hell out of a wonderful day. Yard still needs be cleaned up, work truck still dirty, Cougar still NASTY from lack of use and lousy weather. I’, hoping that the rain will more through the area overnight WITHOUT any storms thank you very much and leave us with a decent Monday. I’m planning on working…if anyone calls for service. I’ll go with no hesitation at ALL…but I’m thinking most businesses will be closed for the holiday on Monday, leaving me free to play with the car.

I can’t wait to see what the next year brings business wise. Owning your own business is by no means easy or non stressful, but the type of stress is completely different than working for someone else. Corporate I.T work in any capacity is its own little version of hell. For whatever twisted reason, the IT department ends up being the political toy of the higher ups. No matter what you’re working on, no matter how many people it is affecting  if there’s a slight possibility that management can make themselves look good to someone in a higher station, they’ll pull you off to go replace a mouse, of some other mundane task that the head of an IT department could do…if they had ANY brains at all.
For all the management types out there…guess what…THEY KNOW ASS KISSING WHEN THEY SEE IT! They are NOT impressed, they appreciate the hand wiping their ass…but they do NOT see it as a trait in advancing your career. They will (hopefully) throw you right to the wolves’ t1st chance they get. Any you deserve every ounce of venom spewed your way. If you want people to respect you and to have some semblance of loyalty…show some to your employees.  The last corporate shops I worked in left a very mercenary mentality in everyone working there. It was a paycheck…nothing more. First chance to leave…it was taken as soon as possible.
If you want a good staff…then treat them like it. The more you alienate, berate and belittle them…the less they care if you look good or not. In fact…some will go out of your way to make you look bad. I know I was called into what we termed the “Ivory Tower” where the biggest of the bigwigs lived and asked why there was so many problems getting tickets completed…and I told the complete truth…piss poor management and lousy treatment by management. Did no good…but it make be feel MUCH better
